Youth shot dead near Sub Collector Office Chowk in Birmaharajpur
Bhubaneswar, April 18: A youth was shot dead in a late-evening incident near Sub Collector Office Chowk in Birmaharajpur, sparking panic in the area and prompting a police manhunt for the accused.
The incident occurred between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM on Friday behind a tea stall near the busy chowk. The victim, identified as Bikram Maharana of Champamal village in Subarnapur district, was found lying critically injured at the scene after the firing.
He was immediately rushed by his friends to the Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH) in Birmaharajpur. However, as his condition deteriorated, he was referred to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, police have registered a case naming Shubham Pritam Hota alias Biki, a resident of the same village, as the prime accused.
Subarnapur Superintendent of Police Narayan Nayak said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused. Preliminary investigation suggests that the murder was carried out using an unlicensed firearm.
A forensic team has begun examining the crime scene, and further investigation is ongoing.
