Heatwave conditions to grip Odisha from April 12
Bhubaneswar, April 9: Severe heat and sultry weather conditions are likely to prevail across Odisha between April 12 and 14, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned, signalling a sharp shift in weather patterns.
According to the IMD, the influence of Kalabaisakhi (nor’wester) is expected to weaken from today, paving the way for rising temperatures and increased humidity. While daytime temperatures may remain stable over the next couple of days, a sudden spike of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius is likely thereafter, intensifying discomfort across the state.
In Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas, the sky remained partly cloudy with a possibility of light rain. Isolated parts of the state may also witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
The IMD has urged residents to take precautions during the upcoming hot and humid spell. Outdoor workers, elderly persons, and children have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the state prepares for a spell of intense summer conditions in the coming days.
