Veteran Odia film producer Rabindra Mohan Sahoo passes away at 81
Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: Renowned Odia film producer and multifaceted cultural figure Rabindra Mohan Sahoo passed away on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 81. His demise has left the Odia film fraternity and cultural circles in deep mourning, with tributes pouring in from filmmakers, artists, and admirers across the state.
Apart from being a successful film producer, Sahoo was also a talented actor, storywriter, and lyricist, making enduring contributions to the growth and evolution of Odia cinema. He was associated with several landmark films that shaped the industry over decades. Among his most notable achievements was producing Eie ta T Dunia in 1987, regarded as one of the pioneering films of its time in Odia cinema.
His other memorable productions include Bastra Haran, Bohu Hebo Emiti, Pacheri Uthila Majhi Duaru, Naga Panchami, Mani Nageswari, Sasu Hata Kari Bhauja Bedi, Kulanandan, Rasik Nagara, and Aalo Mora Kandhei, many of which continue to be cherished by audiences.
Beyond cinema, Sahoo also briefly ventured into public life. In the 1980s, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and was elected as a councillor of the Kendrapada Municipal Corporation. He later contested the Kendrapada Assembly election as a BJP candidate, though he did not win.
Rabindra Mohan Sahoo is survived by his wife, five sons, and a daughter. His legacy as a pioneer and storyteller will remain etched in the history of Odia cinema.
