Odia youth freed from Sudan captivity, returns home after ordeal
Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: Adarsha Behera, a 22-year-old youth from Odisha who was held hostage by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan for over a month, has safely returned to the state, bringing immense relief to his family and the wider Odia community. Adarsha, a native of Kotakana village in Jagatsinghpur district, arrived at the Bhubaneswar airport on Tuesday, where he was reunited with his parents in an emotional scene.
The young man’s abduction in Sudan had triggered serious concern, with his family anxiously awaiting news of his safety. As Adarsha emerged at the airport, his parents broke down in tears, embracing their son after weeks of uncertainty and fear. The reunion was marked by visible relief and gratitude.
According to reports, Adarsha had travelled from Abu Dhabi to Hyderabad a day earlier before finally reaching Bhubaneswar. His safe return was facilitated by the Ministry of External Affairs following sustained efforts and a formal request made by Jagatsinghpur Member of Parliament Bibhu Prasad Tarai, who had raised the issue and demanded his rescue.
Speaking to the media after his arrival, Adarsha shared chilling details of his captivity. He said he was held for nearly one and a half months, taken to a jungle location, beaten repeatedly, and confined in a dark cell. “They gave me only bread and biscuits to survive. There were moments when I felt I would never see my family again,” he said, expressing gratitude to the Indian government and everyone involved in securing his release.
