Odisha reports 3,398 rape cases, 1,855 murders in 16 months
Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: Odisha witnessed 3,398 rape cases and 1,855 murder incidents over the last 16 months, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the State Assembly on Monday. Responding to a question raised by Rajgangpur MLA C.S. Raazen Ekka, the Chief Minister presented detailed data covering the period from June 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025.
According to the statistics, the state recorded 1,779 rape cases involving minors, 116 instances of gang rape, and 856 cases of female murders during this period. Among districts, Mayurbhanj topped the list with 12 gang rape cases, closely followed by Keonjhar with 10. Mayurbhanj also reported the highest number of minor rape cases at 131, while Keonjhar registered 115.
CM Majhi further revealed that the police documented 297 dowry-related homicides and 49 dowry-linked suicides. Additionally, 6,279 dowry torture cases and 7,173 non-dowry torture cases were registered, reflecting persistent concerns over domestic violence.
The Chief Minister stated that the government is undertaking multiple measures to enhance law enforcement, strengthen district-level policing, and introduce improved safety mechanisms to protect women and children across the state.
