CBSE to conduct 10th board exams in two phases from 2026

Bhubaneswar: The Central Council of Secondary Education has recommended conducting two board exams from the next academic year 2025-2026. CBSE is going to take such a step to implement the National Education Policy-2020. CBSE is going to take such a step to further reduce the burden of tuition and examination pressure on students. This was discussed in a meeting chaired by the Union Education Minister.

A policy will be prepared to conduct the CBSE 10th board exam twice. Students, parents, teachers, educators and common citizens can log on to the CBSE website www.cbse.gov.in and send their feedback till March 9. CBSE has issued a notice on Tuesday for public information that it will take steps regarding the two Class 10th board exams after considering the feedback received from various levels.

The first phase of the Class 10th board exams in the academic year 2026 will be held from February 17 to March 6. The results of this phase will be declared on April 20. The second phase exams will be held from May 5 to May 20. The results of the second phase exams will be declared by June 30. The supplementary exams will begin from July 15 and the results will be declared by August 15. This exam is likely to register 26 lakh 60 thousand students. The first phase exam will be held for 18 days and the second phase for 16 days, making a total of 34 days of the exam. About 1 crore 72 lakh 90 thousand question papers are likely to be evaluated.

In 2026, 26.60 lakh students are scheduled to appear for the 10th class, while 20 lakh students are expected to appear for the 12th. Both the exams will be conducted as per the draft syllabus. Except for Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, English, the other subjects will be conducted in regional and foreign language groups. Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, English will be conducted on the dates announced by the Examination Council. The exams for the subjects in the regional and foreign language groups will be conducted on a specific day. This scheme will reduce the study load of the students and eliminate exam stress. While special exams are being conducted for students in the sports field, with the implementation of this scheme, sports students will be able to appear for the exam in one of the two.

The first phase exam center and the second phase exam center will remain the same. At the time of registration, students will have to pay the exam fee for both phases at once. The practical/internal assessment exam will be conducted once. While the mark sheet and pass certificate will be issued in the first phase examination, the grade and mark average will be mentioned in the pass certificate after the second phase examination, including the practical/internal assessment marks. If the students do not pass the first phase examination, they can enroll in class 11 based on the marks they pass in the second phase examination. After the second phase examination, the students will be given a merit certificate; but it is necessary that the student has passed in 5 subjects. If the student fails in 1 to 5 subjects in the first examination, the student can achieve his/her success in the second phase examination.
