CT and GST officials seize 24 kg gold at Biju Patnaik International Airport
Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: On Friday, state commercial taxes (CT) and GST officials seized approximately 24 kg of gold ornaments from a passenger at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar. The seizure occurred after the passenger failed to provide valid documents for 4 kg of the gold.
The gold was being transported in three packets through a logistics company. According to a GST official, the transporter could not produce the required tax invoice and other documentation for the gold. The CT and GST team had received information about a gold shipment arriving on an Indigo flight from Mumbai and intercepted the carrier as they left the airport with 20 kg of gold.
A preliminary inquiry at the CT & GST office in Bal Vihar revealed that while documentation was in order for 20 kg of gold, there were no satisfactory papers for the remaining 4 kg. This seizure follows a recent incident on August 26, when tax authorities had confiscated approximately 50 kg of gold and 200 kg of silver ornaments from a container vehicle near the Bhubaneswar airport.
